Here’s a fruity drink you won’t be able to put down — the Blueberry Martini! This combination of fresh berries, vodka, and lime juice is irresistibly sweet and deliciously tart, making it the ideal drink for any occasion. You’ll be amazed how just a few simple ingredients can come together to make something magical. After tinkering around with a few different combinations, I finally landed on this one. After that first sip, I was sold!

What’s in a blueberry martini?

A blueberry martini is a spin on the classic flavored vodka martini, made with fresh blueberries or blueberry vodka. As you may know, the vodka martini is related to the classic Dry Martini in name only. Unlike its gin-based cousin, the vodka martini is lighter, fruitier, and more playful. It rose to popularity in the 1990s and came to define a broad category of cocktails made with vodka and served in a martini glass. For the blueberry spin you can use fresh or frozen fruit. The ingredients in a blueberry martini are:

Fresh vs frozen fruit

This blueberry martini is best with fresh berries, but you can also use frozen fruit! Because the berries are blended with vodka, frozen berries work well in a pinch. Fresh berries are slightly sweeter than frozen, but the difference is usually subtle.

Can I make it with blueberry vodka?

Blueberry vodka is an artificially flavored vodka, and there are many types on the market. It’s perfect for a blueberry martini — just substitute it for the standard vodka in the recipe below! Combining it with fresh blueberries makes an even more intense blueberry flavor.

How to make it

After you assemble all the ingredients, making a blueberry martini is a breeze! You can find more detailed directions in the recipe card below, but here are the basic steps to get started:

  • Blend: Blend the berries and vodka in a blender.
  • Shake: Add all ingredients (see below) to a cocktail shaker. Add 1 handful of ice and shake until cold!
  • Strain & garnish: Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with extra berries or lime wedges if you’d like.

Can you muddle the blueberries and then add everything else to it? Most shakers have screens.

That would be good flavor wise, but you won’t get the color.

Reminds me my favorite martini while sitting overlooking the water in bar harbor Maine!
